PIANO LESSONS – SINGING LESSONS

PIANO ACCOMPANIMENT

MUSIC THEORY / GCSE & A LEVEL MUSIC COACHING

Jan ‘26 update – My teaching schedule is full, I’m afraid, and I’m unable to take on additional pupils at present.  I will update this message when spaces become available.

About me…

Having moved to Sidmouth with my wife in 2021, I am currently working as a freelance music educator and consultant, teaching piano and singing. I was formerly Director of Music and Performing Arts at Bournemouth School for Girls between 2008 and 2020, and before that worked at King Edward VI Community College in Totnes and at Ringwood School in Hampshire. I am a member, and Deputy conductor, of the Dorset-based Orlando Singers Chamber Choir, as well as regularly playing the piano, ‘cello and bass guitar at various musical events. In Sidmouth, I sing with the Exeter-based St David’s Singers as well accompanying Ottery St Mary Choral Society rehearsals. In December 2023 I conducted the Sidmouth Choral Society Christmas Concert as guest conductor. In addition, I am a rehearsal pianist for Sidmouth Amateur Dramatic Society – and also row in Sidmouth Gig Club!

Just at the moment, my teaching schedule is full, but vacancies do occur and I do run a waiting list. Please use the form below to contact me if you might be interested. I prefer to teach either at home or within a reasonably short distance from home.

I am very happy to teach children or adults, and am a great believer in life-long learning!

I can enter my piano, singing and music theory students for ABRSM (and other exam board) grade exams if they wish.

Pricing etc

I charge £35 per hour pro rata for lessons at my house (in Sidmouth). I am happy to travel to your house (within the immediate area) with a small increase in the charge, by arrangement, to cover travel and travel time.

I suggest 30 mins is a good length for a lesson. More experienced musicians might want to choose a longer lesson. Weekly lessons are usual for younger learners, though fortnightly lessons for adults and more experienced pianists would also work well.

Lessons need to be paid for in advance by bank transfer.

Lessons are MUCH more helpful if students practise regularly between lessons. Guidance on practice is provided.

The small print…

I do reserve the right to end lesson schedules (with refund) if little or no application towards the lessons is demonstrated.
